Welcome to Downtown CASL!
What is the CASL State Conference?
The CASL State Conference is an annual event where student leaders from across California are given the opportunity to learn more about their place in creating a positive, welcoming school culture where all students are empowered to raise their voices and get involved. Through participating in CASL Board led workshops, hearing from amazing keynote speakers, engaging in our service learning project, and listening to our student meet the pros presenters, your students will return to campus motivated and equipped to make a difference.
A primary goal of the CASL State Conference is to enable students to experience the value of idea-sharing. To foster cooperation amongst local schools, time is set aside in Area Meetings for students and advisors alike to share ideas with delegates from schools in your area. During the Intrastate session, delegates join networking groups of students from all over California—and from visiting states and nations—where they will participate in idea-sharing activities led by a CASL-trained facilitator. By utilizing the many structured networking times at the conference, students and advisors will return to their communities with fresh perspectives on traditions and plenty of new ideas for activities and strategies to make the world a better place.
Every year, CASL searches to partner with an organization that embodies the spirit of the CASL State Conference. In previous years, CASL has partnered with Because International, Nika Purified Water, and PenPal Schools with the intent to bring back the idea of servant leadership back to our campus and communities.
All student leaders have something they can bring to the table. At the CASL State Conference, students are encouraged to apply to become a Meet the Pros presenters, and, if selected, will have the opportunity to present six, 10-minute round-table sessions to a group of 12 of their peers on an activity, event, or program in which they are passionate about. In addition to gaining valuable presentation experience and developing interpersonal experiences, presenters will receive a commemorative certificate and t-shirt.
Student leaders end each day by creating memories with the new friends they’ve made, and the conference off-site activity is no exception. Students will be able to explore Ontario’s Speedzone, which is kindly sponsored by USA Student Travel/World Strides.
Every student has faced challenges in their leadership careers. At the CASL State Conference, delegates will learn from CASL Board Members, students just like them, who have faced difficulties and discovered strategies for success. Members of the CASL State Board have been professionally trained in presentation skills and lead 30-minute workshops on topics ranging from event publicity and personal time management to staying motivated and dedicated in the most trying times. Professionals from outside organizations also join the CASL Conference team of presenters to contribute their valuable knowledge, creating a well-rounded and relatable conference curriculum for all.
From sports to debate and academic decathlons, there is no shortage of state and national recognition for student groups who excel at what they do— except when it comes to the students who make all of those programs possible. CASL recognizes schools whose leadership programs create a strong and unified culture while including the voice of every student with its Outstanding Leadership Program Award (OLPA). All schools are encouraged to apply.
