It’s Time to Visit CASL’s Closet!

Posted on April 1, 2024

The 2024 CASL State Conference is just around the corner and we can’t wait to invite you into CASL’s Closet… Embrace the Potential. Your students will depart from this three-day experience more educated, more inspired, and more determined to return to your campus and create the most inclusive student body possible. Let’s begin at the starting point in order to prepare this incredible trip for you and your change agents!

1. Programs:

Check out the MS/HS program for every detail of the conference. For our CASL Media Team this project has been a labor of love!

2. Venue:

To prepare you for the venue, check out the floor plans of the Ontario Convention Center. It is also inside the program. Navigating the conference can be something previewed ahead of time to put everyone at ease in a new situation. Print out a copy and share it with your student leaders. Every venue below is within walking distance of each other. Below are the most important locations to keep in mind:

3. Arriving:

Top 11 Things to Do Upon Arrival. Not just 10, because CASL is always a bit extra!

4. Transportation:

Transportation rules the world (or, at least the education system!).

  • Hotel Shuttles: Both hotels provide a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel!
  • Parking: Parking at the Doubletree Hotel is $17/night with free in/out privileges and parking is free at the overflow hotel (Best Western Plus)

5. Workshops & MTPs:

Be sure to check out the list of workshops in the program and see which workshops are offered. You will be given a set of tickets for all five workshops upon arrival to distribute to your delegation. Also, devote some time to view the MTPs list and know what topic you would like more information about, as each student will be attending three rounds of MTPs.

6. Off-site Event:

We will be heading to Castle Park! They will be closing the park just for CASL with unlimited rides and mini golf! We will also be having dinner at the venue. It is a 25-minute bus ride (buses provided by WorldStrides), and we will have a few cars if needed. Make sure your students have comfortable walking shoes and a jacket (or you can buy a CASL Sweatshirt at our CASL Store!). We will provide wristbands for your group at the second advisor meeting. Castle Park will have a bag search upon entry, so encourage your students not to bring anything additional to their CASL totes. If they are an arcade fan, they can bring some extra cash to play!

7. Service Learning Experience:

Reminder: CASL will partner with the West End Shelter for Animals to repurpose old T-shirts that would have normally been thrown away! Each delegate is being asked to bring a used T-shirt, which will be cut up at the conference and turned into T-shirt blankets during our Service Area Room. These T-shirt blankets will be donated to the West End Shelter for Animals, which will use these blankets to keep all of their animals warm! We ask that these T-shirts do not contain any offensive/inappropriate language, violent imagery, or anything that could be considered hateful. Have more than one T-shirt you no longer wear? Feel free to bring multiple shirts for others who may not have spare T-shirts to cut up! Service is incredibly excited about this opportunity to make a positive impact and be a part of the change towards becoming a more eco-friendly society. If you have any questions, please feel free to check out the website for more information.

8. Stay Connected!

We all need gentle reminders. That’s what friends are for! Join our Remind groups (delegates, advisors, MTPs presenters, and candidates) to get the most updated information and follow us on all our social media platforms as well.

9. Get Ready!

If you have never been to the CASL State Conference, you are in for an unforgettable experience. We have over 1700 MS and HS student leaders, advisors, administrators, parents and CASL alumni joining the 2024 CASL State Conference. We are thrilled to meet all of you and grateful to have a platform in which we can provide this learning opportunity to so many in California. You have all contributed to making this happen. Take care of yourself and your delegation for the next 10 days, as they are about to have an experience of a lifetime.

Sandra Kurland, M.Ed.

It’s a great day to change a life!
